What is Store-A-Tooth?
Store-A-Tooth is a unique service that allows parents to store stem cells found inside of their children’s teeth. These dental stem cells can be collected from candidate teeth during routine dental extractions. Instead of teeth being discarded following dental care, Store-A-Tooth offers an affordable and convenient opportunity for the storage of the stem cells for possible future use.
The value of dental stem cells is still being discovered, but known uses for dental stem cells already include treatment for regenerating dental bone and gum disease. Stem cells from cord blood and bone marrow help treat systemic diseases, and it is believed that in the future, dental stem cells may as well. The banking system associated with Store-A-Tooth is about 1/3 of the cost of storing stem cells from umbilical cord blood. Because these are not embryonic stem cells, there is no controversy over their use regarding therapy of their donor or close family member.
