We get a lot of questions about this new surgical technique called Pinhole®, which is used to treat any patients that currently have receding gums. Here is everything you need to know about the Pinhole Procedure and what you can expect if you are thinking this may be a solution for you.
What is The Pinhole® Surgical Technique?
The pinhole surgical technique is a special procedure that is used for repairing and helping with gum recession. This is a great solution for people with gum recession because there is no need to cut into the gums. It is a very minimally invasive surgical procedure that starts right above the crown of the tooth or where the gum line of the receding tooth is. Tiny holes are made in the gum where there are signs of recession. The gums get massaged using a speciality tool where they are then either pushed or pulled into place. Collagen is filled inside these holes which helps keep the gums in place.
Who Can Perform The Pinhole® Procedure?
In order to be able to perform the pinhole procedure, a periodontist will need to be certified. There is extra training that is needed. Our own Dr. Helyne at Paradise Dental is board certified to perform the Pinhole® Procedure. A periodontist is a specific type of dentist who helps with the health and restoration of your gums.
Does the Pinhole® Surgical Technique Hurt?
When you are undergoing this procedure, we will use a local anesthetic that goes in the specific areas where the pinhole procedure will be performed.
Does the Pinhole® Procedure stitches?
This procedure doesn’t involve any cutting or any suturing during or after. This is one of the most popular reasons that people turn to the Pinhole® procedure for their gum recession problems, and because there are no stitches needed, the recovery time is very quick as well.
